Travaux du Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle “Grigore Antipa” has an annual frequency and it is published in English and French.
The journal is 50 years old. It was founded in 1957, when the museum was led by Professor Alexandru V. Grossu, well-known malacologist.
Since its very first issues, the journal tried to reflect the Romanian and foreign specialists’ activity, absolutely in all fields specific to a museum. Here there are papers with the results of the scientifical activity, papers on museology as well as papers on educational activities.
Scientifical research represents the base of the chapters of systematics, faunology, physiology, general biology, ecology, zoogeography, palaeontology. Temporary exhibitions, completing and updating of the permanent exhibition and the educational activities create the chapter of museology. The journal ends with the “Review” chapter.
Occasionally, the chapter “Anniversaries, Commemorations” is included, presenting articles where the most important events of the scientifical world, anniversaries or commemorations are presented.
The papers present the fauna of the most entire territory of Romania, and those which deal with the world fauna cover wide geographical areas, especially the oceans, from the poles to the tropics.
“Travaux” Journal is distributed all over the world. For the time being, 160 institutions of 35 countries receive it in their libraries.
Besides the important names of the Romanian zoology, within its covers there are papers signed by over 90 foreign biologists from about 30 countries.
As yet, the chapters of systematics and faunology gather data on over 700 new taxa and over 2,200 new reports for the Romanian fauna.
